How to Measure for a Back Brace: A Practical Size Guide
Measure where your chosen product tells you to measure—not where your trousers happen to sit. Write down the circumference and unit, then match it to that product’s size chart. Size names alone are not interchangeable between braces.
A few minutes with a flexible measuring tape can make an online comparison much clearer. This guide uses two ZSZBACE products as examples, so you can see why the same letter size does not mean the same fit across the collection.
What you need before measuring
- A flexible measuring tape with centimetres or inches.
- The size guide for the exact product and option you are considering.
- A mirror or another person to help keep the tape level.
If the listing names a waist measurement at the navel, use that location. If it names a different waist or hip position, follow that instruction instead. Avoid using a trouser label as a substitute for a body measurement.
Take the measurement without pulling the tape tight
- Find the stated measuring line. For the Cross-Strap Full Back Posture Brace shown below, the supplied guide uses waist circumference at navel level.
- Keep the tape level around your body. Check the back as well as the front so the tape is not sloping.
- Let it rest comfortably against you. Do not pull it inward to make a smaller number, and do not hold your breath.
- Measure again and record the unit. If two readings differ, check the position and tape tension before deciding on a size.
A worked example: the Cross-Strap Full Back Posture Brace
The supplied chart for this product lists the following waist ranges. The inch values below are approximate conversions from the centimetre values, rounded to one decimal place.
| Size | Waist at navel (cm) | Approx. inches |
|---|---|---|
| S | 70–85 | 27.6–33.5 |
| M | 80–95 | 31.5–37.4 |
| L | 90–105 | 35.4–41.3 |
| XL | 100–115 | 39.4–45.3 |
| XXL | 110–125 | 43.3–49.2 |
This table applies only to this product. Check the product page for the current chart and available options before ordering. It is not a size chart for every ZSZBACE back brace.
Why you should recheck the chart when switching styles
The Striped Dual-Pull Lumbar Belt uses a different size system: its supplied chart lists S/M at 70–90cm, L/XL at 90–110cm and XXL at 110–135cm. For example, a 96cm reading falls within L on the full-back chart above and within L/XL on this belt’s chart.
That example shows how to read the charts; it does not establish that both products fit every person with that measurement. Coverage, panel dimensions and adjustment also differ.

This waist-only style has combined size labels. Open its page and compare the measurement chart rather than choosing the same letter as another brace.

If listed ranges overlap, do not assume that the larger size is always the better choice. Check the product’s boundary guidance or contact us with the product link, measurement and the two sizes you are considering.
A waist circumference does not tell you the length of a full-back panel or how the shoulder loops will sit. If torso length is a concern and the listing does not provide the necessary dimensions, ask before ordering. We should not substitute a guess based on height for missing product dimensions.
Check the fit again when the product arrives
Follow the product’s fastening instructions, check the closures and make gradual adjustments. Review our back brace fit and adjustment tips. Keep the packaging and review the returns conditions before deciding whether to keep a size.
